Six Senses, Con Dao

No better way to kick off The Suite Escape than with Six Senses Con Dao. A hotel that truly changed everything for me. Nestled on the southern island of Con Dao Vietnam, a truly one of a kind property finds itself there. As outstandingly unique as the property was, i found myself feeling instantly at home. This wasn't only because you are greeted with friendly faces and exceptional Vietnamese food, but for the immediate calmness felt within self.

Whether you are a solo traveller, with a special someone or with family, Six Senses Con Dao is the hotel to accommodate all. I came solo and found such peace and beauty in all the simplest of things, that maybe i didn't pay attention to before. And thats what it comes down to - simplicity. Its the simple things in life that provide us with the greatest sense of joy and purpose and this hotel not only does exactly that, but reminds you in the warmest of ways. The deep blues and greens of the island create the perfect palate drawing you in further. You arrive by boat and as you get closer the more quiet everything becomes. The villas grow more visible and thats when it starts to sink in just how special this experience will be. As stunning as the views out into the ocean are, i found the views facing the hotel so uniquely rich in nature and colour.

Six Senses Con Dao offers something not many hotels can. That being the green sea turtles. They come to the Six Senses beach and lay their eggs year round and a turtle sanctuary operates on the hotel grounds. If you are lucky to be staying there whilst the turtles hatch, you will receive a very exciting call inviting you to help with the release. Hearing the news when i was there, i jumped on my bike at 5:30am full of adrenaline and in awe of the hotels dedication to the care of the little ones. A truly unforgettable moment and one that taught me just how beautiful vulnerability can be.

I've always been impressed with how the Six Senses properties immerse themselves into their surroundings. When a hotel is able to balance a sense of culture, environmental awareness whilst providing you with a luxurious stay - that to me is what equates a hospitality pushing the industry's standards. Six Senses Con Dao does exactly that.
